Things people are looking for when
they visit a web site.
"Tidbits of Web Site Information" from Borsche Digital, LLC

TRUE OR FALSE

People don't mind scrolling side to side.

ANSWER

FALSE

Most people I know do NOT like to scroll a web site left or right. Keep this in mind when creating your web site. I recommend a width of about 975 pixels which will display well on screen width of 1024 pixels or wider.

When people come to a website, they are looking for information of some kind. Your website should be designed so that they can easily find the information they are looking for.

  • Product information: which means in-depth information on the products or services you provide, including prices.
  • Support: including product information, troubleshooting help, FAQs, etc.
  • Samples of your products or previous work.
  • Simple navigation that makes all these other items easy to find.
  • Company information such as background information on the business and the management team.
  • Contact information such as phone numbers, e-mail addresses and physical location.

If you make it hard for the visitor to find the information they are looking for, why should they stay on your site? Make the information they are looking for easy to find and complete.
